The City of Greenville was awarded a grant through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program for improvements to the sidewalk near Greenville Elementary School.
“I was proud to support Greenville’s application for replacement and extension of the sidewalk along Idler Lane,” said Rep. Charlie Meier. “Ensuring safe routes to school and improving public safety for Greenville students and residents is important to me.”
Last fall, State Representative Charlie Meier wrote a letter in support of the City of Greenville’s application, citing the positive impacts to the entire community that these improvements will have.
The City of Greenville was awarded $250,000 for this project, which will replace roughly 1,671 feet of sidewalk and add new crosswalks to fill gaps that currently force students and residents into unsafe conditions. The sidewalk will be 5 feet wide, made of Portland Cement Concrete.
