Meier Says Gov. Pritzker’s Signature on SB 328 Deals Another Blow to Illinois Businesses

OKAWVILLE, IL – State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) issued the following statement regarding Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signing of Senate Bill 328, legislation that will greatly increase frivolous lawsuits into law. House Republicans previously called on Pritzker to veto the legislation and have filed a lawsuit to stop the law’s implementation since Pritzker has now signed the bill into law.

“Governor Pritzker’s decision to enact SB 328 is a huge mistake that will cost Illinois businesses time and money fighting off frivolous lawsuits from cash-hungry trial lawyers,” Rep. Charlie Meier said. “SB 328 doesn’t protect Illinois residents—it penalizes businesses, stifles investment, and fuels a legal climate that welcomes frivolous lawsuits. Governor Pritzker should have vetoed this trial lawyer cash giveaway. Instead, he joined hands with his Democrat trial lawyer buddies and took direct aim at job creation and economic growth in Illinois.”

Rep. Charlie Meier says the new law will drive up the cost of doing business in Illinois.

“These costs will be passed on to already cash-strapped working families and consumers,” Rep. Charlie Meier said. “Illinois already stands at a competitive disadvantage with neighboring states that have fairer legal systems and more friendly legal environments.”

Rep. Charlie Meier is supporting a still-pending lawsuit filed by Republicans against House Speaker Chris Welch and Senate President Don Harmon challenging the process that led to the passage of SB 328. The matter is pending in Sangamon County Circuit Court.
