The Secretary of State announced the results of a statewide vote on Illinois’ next flag. The options included the current flag and 9 others, with the current flag coming in first by over 130,000 votes, an overwhelming favorite.
State Representative Charlie Meier said he’s happy with the results:
“Thank you to everyone who voted to keep our flag. Illinois needs to focus on lowering the cost of living, stopping the flood of folks leaving the state, and providing support for our small businesses. It is not the time to spend tax dollars a new flag.“
The Illinois General Assembly will now vote on whether or not to change the flag. Meier says he’s going to vote “no” on changing the flag. “The people have spoken,” he said.
