Meier Provides Update on Governor’s Disaster Proclamation in Wake of Summer Storms

NASHVILLE, IL – Governor JB Pritzker has issued a disaster proclamation in response to the severe storm system that whipped through Illinois from July 13 to July 16, 2024. The storm’s impact has been widespread and devastating, and State Representative Charlie Meier has been working diligently to provide aid to affected communities.

The storm system, which brought heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hail, tornadoes, and straight-line winds, resulted in significant destruction across multiple counties. Nashville, Illinois experienced flooding and the overflow of the Nashville reservoir. As winds reached up to 105 miles per hour, homes, businesses, and local utilities were affected.

State Representative Charlie Meier stated, “These summer storms have wreaked havoc across Illinois, and this disaster proclamation is an important step to mobilizing the resources needed to support our local communities as we recover. Since these storms ripped through my district, I’ve been working with emergency agencies, the Governor’s office, and our local communities to bring attention and resources to the affected communities.”

Governor Pritzker’s disaster proclamation declares Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will, and Winnebago Counties as disaster areas. This action releases state resources and facilitates the request for federal disaster assistance if necessary.

Representative Meier urges residents to stay informed through local updates and cooperate with emergency response efforts as recovery continues. “We are committed to working closely with state and local agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to this disaster,” he added.
