State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) recognized the Okawville High School girl’s basketball team, the Lady Rockets on winning the 2023 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Girls Basketball Championship. Rep. Meier welcomed and congratulated the Lady Rockets during Tuesday’s legislative session of the Illinois House of Representatives at the State Capitol in Springfield.
“I was proud to welcome and congratulate my hometown Lady Rockets on winning the 2023 State Championship before the Illinois House of Representatives,” said Rep. Meier. “I really enjoyed having the team visit my capitol office. I also provided each member of the team a bottle of ski to enjoy with them all. Their achievement continues to put Okawville in a positive light. Again, congratulations to the Lady Rockets on winning the state championship.”
The Lady Rockets defeated the Christopher Lady Bearcats at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University on March 4, 2023 with a commanding final score of 56 to 35. The Lady Rockets win over Christopher earned them their third girls state basketball championship, having previously hoisted the trophy in 1994 and 2000.
Rep. Meier recognized the championship team and coaching staff by adopting House Resolution 182.

The Lady Rockets basketball team includes seniors Elizabeth Frederking, Megan Rennegarbe, Briley Rhodes, and Paige Reichmann, juniors Mallory Bening, Adysen Harre, Alayna Kraus, Raelyn Obermeier, Maggie Sawicki, Madisyn Wienstroer, and Nora Wood, sophomores Jenna Hackstadt and Camryn Wiedwilt, and freshmen Kate Borrenpohl, Lillian Helbig, Carly Schmidt, Rylan Senior, and Caroline Tepe.
