GREENVILLE, IL – State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) hosted a free tire recycling event in Greenville this week, drawing hundreds of residents and collecting approximately one-and-a-half semi-truck loads of tires for recycling.
Meier said he was thrilled to see the strong turnout and ensure everyone who came to the event was able to participate, even though an additional semi-truck was needed to handle the number of tires collected.
“This is the second year we have hosted this free event in Greenville, and the turnout both years has been outstanding,” said Rep. Meier. “I am glad to bring events like these across the district, and I am glad the community is taking advantage of this opportunity to recycle tires that could otherwise end up in our creeks, ditches, or landfills.”
Meier thanked the Greenville FFA and other volunteers for helping make the event a success.
“We simply could not do this without the help of volunteers,” said Rep. Meier. “Mayor George Barber, the Greenville FFA, and the City of Greenville all helped make this event possible.”
Meier said he plans to continue bringing free tire recycling events to communities throughout the district and make them an annual opportunity for residents.
