Almost 2 years ago, on December 23, 2024, a great tragedy unfolded when Trooper Clay Carns was struck and killed by a passing vehicle on I-55 near Channahon, Illinois, while he was removing debris from the road.
In recognition of his 11 years of service, Trooper Carns has been honored for his years of unwavering commitment to helping others.
On July 29, a Memorial Sign was dedicated in his honor at the Washington County EMS building, where local Illinois State Police (ISP) agents, family members, and friends gathered.
