Charlie’s Capitol Catch Up: Bills, 2A, Around the District, & More

Last week was the House Third Reading Deadline. Let me fill you in.

Moving Bills

Ahead of last Friday’s deadline, I was working to make sure my bills were moving. Here’s what I was able to get passed through the House:

  • HB 2044 raises the threshold for the “small business” classification from $14 million in gross sales/receipts to $20 million. This number has not changed since 2013. This initiative came from a local company and will allow for more companies to compete for work previously restricted to smaller companies.
  • HB 2065 changes the requirements for nonprofits to qualify for grants under the Charitable Trust Stabilization Act to make it easier for small nonprofits to apply for state grants

I will fill you in on some more initiatives as we enter the final month of the spring legislative session.

Honoring Two Breese Central State Champs

Breese Central
Breese Central 2

I was thrilled to have Breese Central Cougar Women Basketball Team and Cheerleading Team to the Capitol to celebrate their State Championships.

Breese Central High School (Cougars) are the 2026 IHSA Class 2A Girls Basketball State Champion, defeating Byron 44-28 on March 7, 2026, to secure their second state title in program history.

The school also won the 2026 1A IHSA Competitive Cheerleading State Championship.

To celebrate their achievements, I filed House Resolutions 737 and 750.

Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day

Meier IGOLD

The Second Amendment is not up for grabs. It was great seeing so many advocates in full force to show the radical Democrats that our rights shall not be infringed!

The Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD) has become the number one demonstration of citizens promoting gun owners’ rights in the United States, and the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) is its primary sponsor.

Ag Day at the Capitol

Meier Ag Day

I love Illinois Agriculture Legislative Day in Springfield. I love seeing all the FFA and 4-H kids. Without those two organizations, I wouldn’t be a State Rep.
