SPRINGFIELD, IL – Today, Charlie Meier applauded the federal government’s decisive action to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding via the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Meier emphasized that no taxpayer dollars – state or federal – should be sent to organizations that provide abortion services.
“Thank you to President Trump and the Republicans in Congress who bravely stood for life and defunded Planned Parenthood. This is a critical step to protect life and the unborn.”
Meier challenged that the state of Illinois should follow suit.
“I am a strong fighter for the unborn. That is why I have voted against every radical bill by JB Pritzker to promote abortion in Illinois. He has made Illinois one of the most radical states for abortions, but I have fought it at every turn. Illinois should follow suit and end taxpayer funding for abortions,” said Meier.
“Under my proposal to end state funding for abortion, we could instead use those state taxpayer dollars to build a stronger safety net for young women who would like to avoid pregnancy, and mothers seeking care for unplanned pregnancies including prenatal healthcare, improved pregnancy centers, adoption support, parenting programs, and real solutions that value both mother and life.”
“Thankfully, Congress has moved in the right direction. Now it’s time for every state, including Illinois, to join the movement away from government-funded abortion.”
Charlie Meier’s Key Legislative Proposals:
- End Taxpayer Funding of Abortion in Illinois.
- End Late Term Abortions in Illinois.
- Provide Better Prenatal Care.
