HIGHLAND, IL – State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) has issued a statement on the sentencing of former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan, who was sentenced in federal court to 7.5 years in prison and a $2.5 million fine after being convicted of bribery conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud.
“Mike Madigan is finally going to prison where he belongs,” said Rep. Meier. “Although this is a step in the right direction for rooting out corruption in Illinois, the do-nothing Democrats refuse to take any real action that would stop this from happening again. Madigan’s hand-picked successor still operates under the Madigan Way, and the stain of corruption will hang over the corrupt Illinois Democrats as long as they refuse to work with Republicans on real solutions to end public corruption.”
Representative Meier represents the 109th District, which includes all or parts of Madison, St. Clair, Bond, Washington, and Clinton counties.
