HIGHLAND, IL – During the months of October through December, the number of deer incidents on our roadways skyrocket. State Representative Charlie Meier shared some tips to stay safe on the roads this deer season.
“It’s that time of year again when you’re more likely to see deer on the roads,” said Meier. “Deer are more likely to be active during the evening, so be extra cautious at dawn and dusk. While you’re driving, scan the sides of the road for eyeshine – which you’ll likely be able to see before you see the whole deer. Also remember – where there’s one deer, there’s probably more. Stay safe out there and be extra careful out there!”
If you happen to hit a deer, safely pull off to the shoulder, turn your hazard lights on, and call 9-1-1. Remain in your vehicle and don’t check on the injured deer.
